Benjamin Funeral Service ~ Nowata, Oklahoma................................. Graveside services for Robert Eugene Briggs of Nowata will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service with Pastor Dean "Beaver" Scott officiating. He was born on November 15, 1926 to Ocie and Cora "Chair" Briggs. He died on January 5, 2016 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. He attended Lenapah Schools where he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Ina Geraldine "Epperson" Briggs. They were married on September 3, 1949 and were married for 64 years before she lost her life on January 5, 2014. They had two children, a son, Kelly Briggs who is deceased and a daughter, Debbie Pullen of Nowata. They made their home in Eureka, Kansas for 19 years before moving to Aurora, CO in 1968 where they lived for 39 years prior to their move to Nowata in 2007 to be close to their daughter and grandkids. Robert served his country in the army from 1945 - 1946 where he worked as an ambulance driver. He then went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company as a pipeline supervisor and retired in 1985 after 35 years with the company. Robert loved playing senior baseball and did so for many years while living in Aurora, CO. He had a hobby and a great talent of doing woodwork. He made beautiful furniture, old time cars, and pictures while also making lots of things that was donated to the church where his wife attended at Aurora First Christian Church Disciples in Christ for many, many years. He would also make all kinds of "pranks/jokes" just to be able to make people laugh. He enjoyed fishing with his daughter and grandkids but most of all he loved being able to spend as much time with his kids and grandkids as possible. He was an amazing husband, daddy, and grandpa. He always went above and beyond to make sure we were all taken care of and did lots of special things for each of us. He was a hero to his family and we loved him with all our hearts. You will be missed greatly but we are truly blessed to have only great memories to always hold on to. He had lots of friends and family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Pullen of Nowata; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter; Robert Parrish and wife Shauna and their children, Caleb and Kyle Parrish of Nowata, Amy and husband Michael Rush and their children, Hunter and Jessica Hicks, Micaela Rush, Megan "Rush" and husband Joseph Varvera and their daughter Kayden Varvera of Collinsville, Amber and husband Jody Shambles and their children, Abbi Roberts and Wyatt Shambles of Nowata; a sister Lorene Wilson of St. Mary's, KS and three brothers; Earl Briggs of Lattarpe, KS, Dean Briggs of Garden City, KS and Paul Briggs of Alburqueque, NM and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; Ocie and Cora "Chair" Briggs. The love of his life, best friend, and wife Ina Geraldine "Epperson" Briggs; a son, Kelly Byron briggs; two sisters, Midge McVay and Naomi Keller; a brother, Charles Briggs and two baby brothers.
