Benjamin Funeral Service, Nowata, Oklahoma............Robert Dwain Eve, 83 year old Nowata resident passed away at his home on March 30, 2015. He was born May 18, 1931 in Nowata County, Oklahoma to Guy Lee and Effie Jane (Yelton) Eve. Bob attended Nowata Schools and while in high school enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard. 1950-1953, Bob was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, as a S/Sgt Clerk Typist. 1954, he became a cadet in aviation, promoted to 2nd lieutenant and trained as a navigator on B36/47 Nav Course at Ellington, AFB, TX. On July 28, 1954, he married Carolyn Bumgarner. 1954-1956, he was stationed at Lake Charles AFB, LA and obtained regular Air Force Captain status with 750 B-47 hours. This is where he also became a father. 1957, he began his next assignment at Westover AFB, MA and received his promotion to Captain. It was during this assignment he flew approximately 20 Chrome Dome 24+ missions and 2,000 hours protecting our country from foreign aircraft. After medically grounded for two years 1960-1961, he was then transferred to Keesler AFB, MISS as a Captain and Electronics School student. From there he was stationed at Offutt AFB, NE 1961-1962 as a Combat Crew Commander and Atlas D Missile Guidance Control Officer. He also served as a Strategic Air Command Inspector and General Team Missile Inspector Atlas, Titan, And Minuteman. 1964-1970, his next assignment was in Little Rock AFB, AR, promoted to the rank of Major and returned to flying status serving on the B58 as Radar Navigator with over 1,000 hours (Standboard Navigator). 1970, while stationed at Nellis AFB, NV, Lt. Colonel Robert D. Eve served as Weapons System Officer on the F-111A logging over 500 hours and 21 missions over North Vietnam. Bob retired from the Air Force in 1973 at Nellis AFB, NV, honorably completing 26 years of service to his country. The next 19 years were spent as Assistant Vice President and Bank Manager for First Interstate Bank of Nevada at Nellis AFB. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Donald Lee Eve. Bob was a very loving and caring man that had a special place in his heart for his wife, Carolyn; a daughter Rebecca and companion, Michael Diekhoff of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Carrie Reed and sons Robbie and Nick, Bobby Kirkendoll, daughter Emma and son Landry of Ridgecrest, CA, Raina Hodson, husband Breck Hodson, daughter Rebekah and son Braven, Kyle Vaughn and wife Lindsey Vaughn of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sister Jawan Covey of Nowata, OK and sister in law, Jo Eve of Grove, OK. He was a man of many friends whom he loved dearly. He is truly respected and will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Robert (Bob) Eve will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel in Nowata, OK. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
