Roy Cecil Tipton, a seventy five year old Vinita resident died Friday May 27, 2011, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born September 20, 1935 in Afton, OK the son of Cecil William Tipton and Eletha Baker Tipton. He was raised and educated in Afton and upon reaching the age of eighteen he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving four years then moving back to Afton. He later enlisted in the navy serving eighteen years and retiring in 1974 to a farm in Afton. While in the Navy he served as a flight engineer on the USS Kearsarge the carriers Coral Sea and Midway. He was stationed at Pensacola, Fl, and Washington State. Roy was a member of the American Legion post 40 and he enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting and loved to fly airplanes. Roy leaves behind his children: James Tipton of Tulsa, OK, Tammy Wyrick of Joplin, MO, Pamela Tipton of Joplin, MO, Beth Tipton Williams of Oswego, KS and Maggie Bishop of Tulsa, OK, two sisters Imogene Jones of Afton, OK and Bertha Richardson of Independence, KS, two brothers: Jerry Tipton of Wichita, KS and Jimmie Tipton of Tulsa, OK, eleven grandchildren and three great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday June 2nd at Luginbuel Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Ted Wynn officiating. Friends are invited to greet the family and visit following the service at the Funeral Home.
