Rufus Johnson

Rufus Johnson, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 24, 2020. Rufus was born on January 14, 1942 in Kenwood, OK. He was the son of James and Ollie (Custer) Johnson. Rufus was a longtime resident of the Grand Lake area. He attended Ketchum Public Schools. Rufus was a gifted singer and musician, who loved to sing his favorite Gospel songs for his family and friends to enjoy. On March 15, 1963 Rufus married Darlene Marie Robinson. They made their home on a farm near Ketchum. Together they raised six children. He was self-employed and worked custom hay bailing with his two sons. Rufus and Darlene were married up until her death on May 23, 1995. On August 5, 1995, Rufus married Zelma Milburn. they made their home in Ketchum where he lived the remainder of his life.

Rufus is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ollie; wife of 32 years Darlene; one infant son; six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Zelma of the home; brother Manuel Johnson and wife Gloria of Afton, OK; children, Randy Johnson and wife Pam of Spavinaw, OK, Lisa Simmons and husband John of Ketchum, OK, Rick Johnson of Ketchum, OK, Lori Wakefield of Vinita, OK, Linda Fatula of Phoenix, AZ, Luci Bennett and husband Michael of Ketchum, OK; step-children, John Leppla and wife Lisa of Wyandotte, OK, Jeremy Pitts and wife Kelly of Okmulgee, OK, Jennifer Moorhead and husband Joe of Afton, OK; grandchildren, Bobby, Rachel, James, Lacy, Megan, Josh, Matt, Billy, Ryan, Tristan, Emily, Kristen, Melody, Kyle, Caleb, Chloe, Kayla, Kirsten, Kourtney, Wesley, Krystel, Brandy, Cheyenne, Claira, Keyton; great-grandchildren, Emma, Elyssa, Ember, Ryder, Natalie, Makenzie, Josiah, Braxton, Kase, Ryland, Harvey, Adelynn, Chloe, Johnny, Lucas M., Lucas W., Lincoln, Kayden, Klansee, and Brayson along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Funeral Home in Langley, OK from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A celebration of life service for Rufus will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Open Door Community Church in Ketchum with Pastor Tommie Spurgeon officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ketchum Cemetery in Ketchum, OK.
