Sherlene Sanders

May 1, 1954 — October 20, 2014

Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, OK - 918-253-3222 - Sherlene Russell Sanders was born May 1, 1954 in Tahlequah, OK to Roscoe Russell and Maude (Raven) Russell. She left this world to start her journey in heaven at 7:44 am on Monday, October 20, 2014 at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 19 days. She was raised in small town USA. Also known as Leach, Oklahoma. When Sherlene was 19 years old, she met the love of her life, Johnson Sanders. Over the next 41 years they lived in various locations including Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Siloam Springs, AR before finally making their home together in January 1998 in Kansas, OK. Sherlene and Johnson married on July 28, 1995 at Elm Prairie Baptist Church in Leach, OK. Sherlene is survived by her husband Johnson Sanders Sr. of the home, 5 sons and 3 daughters: Johnson Sanders Jr. of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Jacob Sanders of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Jerrod Sanders of Kansas, Oklahoma, Deandra Sanders of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, James Sanders of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, Eric Sanders of Kansas, Oklahoma and Adriana Sanders of Kansas, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 2 brothers: Tom Jerry Russell of Sisseton, South Dakota and Ed Russell of Collinsville, Oklahoma Sherlene was never a stranger to anyone. She loved her grandchildren with a passion. She enjoyed going to church on Sundays at Elm Prairie in Leach where she's been a member all her life. She loved spending her evenings sitting outside with friends or family and love going down to Mary Ann's to have her cup of coffee and gossip. She enjoyed her long talks on the phone with her brother Tom Jerry. With those two it was never a 15 minute conversation. Didn't matter if it was hours on the phone, she was game. She was always excited for grand kids to come in on the weekends and was just as excited to send them home on Sundays. They sure loved her fry bread, beans and gravy. She will be missed by many. More than she will ever know. Life as we know it is the dream, and when we wake up in heaven we know we will see her beautiful face again. Love the people god gave you; he will need them back one day The funeral service will be held at the Leach Baptist Church in Leach, OK on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2PM with Rev. Leo Duncan and Rev.
