Shirley Geraldine Shipley, a resident of Nowata was born August 10, 1929 in Delaware, Oklahoma to Vivian and LeRoy Lewis. She passed away June 21, 2006 at Nowata, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years 10 months and 11 days. Mrs. Shipley attended schools in Delaware, Oklahoma where she graduated with the Class of 1947. She was soonafter married to Howard Alvin Shipley on April 3, 1947. Mrs. Shipley worked in a nursing home as an aide with her late mother-in-law, Mamie Harrison, for several years. She later worked as a personal caretaker for several residents in the area. Mrs. Shipley was most recently contributing to her family as a homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Shipley enjoyed crocheting afghans and was very well known for the pumpkin rolls and sugar cookies she made during the holidays. Thanksgiving was her favorite time to put together a huge feast for the entire family. Throughout her life Mrs. Shipley traveled across the country with her husband and attended numerous rodeos. She also enjoyed "Coon" hunting and fishing and was a self-proclaimed superstar guard for her Delaware High School Basketball team. Mrs. Shipley was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Colleen Ridenhour; by a brother, Alvin Lewis; and by a great-grandson, Tristan Tiry. She is survived by her Husband, Howard Alvin Shipley, of the home; Daughter, Sandra & Bob Moseley; Daughter, Debbie & Mike Williams; Daughter, Pamela & Steve Landrum; Daughter, Beverly Gibson; Daughter, Brenda & Jack Tiry; Sister, Kay Estes; Sister, Betty & Roy Lee Salyers; 19 Grandchildren; 52 Great-Grandchildren; Many Nieces & Nephews; and a host of friends.
