Hicks are 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Wendell Abbott officiating. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery in Childers. Family will be receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service. Vernon H. Hicks, 89, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. He was born May 6, 1928 in Childers, Oklahoma to Walter and Eva (Adamson) Hicks at Childers, Oklahoma. He attended Childers schools and on May 13, 1948 he married Frances Beu in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Frances died October 23, 2002. They were married for 53 years and had four children together. Vernon married Neva Highfield on July 18, 2003. He was a past deacon at Lenapah Baptist Church and currently attended the First Church of God of Nowata. Vernon worked in the oilfields most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fixing things. He would work on anything broken and make it work. When able he enjoyed traveling to Donna, Texas for the winters. Most of all he loved his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and other family members held a special place in his heart. He will be missed by all who knew him. Vernon is survived by his wife Neva of the home; three children, Vernon Hicks, Jr., of Delaware, Maxine Perser of Hutchinson, Kansas, Joyce Fisher of Nowata, Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Rita Hemphill; a step-son, Darrell Highfield; a brother, Paul Hicks; two sisters, Lorrine Corle and Ruby Collier, seven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eva Hicks; a son, Robert Hicks; three granddaughters, Corina Watkins, Kristen Hicks, Bethany Buffy Hicks; brothers, Walter Hicks, Howard Hicks, Delbert Hicks, Jim Hicks, Ancil Hicks, Wendell Hicks; sisters, Jewell Loghry, Evelyn Hughes, Barbara Bray, Allene Hughes, Nelsene Hicks, Eva Jane Green.
