Virgie Louise Nix, 91-year-old Nowata resident, passed away at 6:10a.m., Friday, November 17, 2006 at the St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa. Virgie Louise Nix was born September 10, 1915 in Estella, Oklahoma to Vallas Dosson Scott and Affey Mae Cook-Scott. She started schools at Bunker Hill in Craig County and later moved to Nowata at the age of seven. Mrs. Nix graduated from Alluwe in 1934. On November 3, 1934, she married William Clarence "Bill" Lord in Bartlesville. Mr. Lord passed away on September 24, 1957. Mrs. Nix later married Huron Ray Nix on November 3, 1959 in Miami. He also preceded Mrs. Nix in death on March 20, 1994. Mrs. Nix had worked as a bookkeeper for NYK Oil for several years and later for Alluwe Propane. Mrs. Nix enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a member of the WIBC Bowling Association and traveled to several tournaments across the United States. Mrs. Nix avidly bowled six days a week and was one of few that could boast a perfect game. She was sidelined from bowling when she suffered a career ending arm injury. However, Mrs. Nix soon after developed another passion for pool. She rushed right out after the injury and bought a brand new pool table complete with OU Sooners emblems. Mrs. Nix loved shopping and was known to disappear for an entire day to make an unaccompanied trip to Lowes for materials for her next project. Besides the time she spent on her projects, Mrs. Nix also spent a lot of time finding and collecting stuffed animals. Mrs. Nix also loved to eat at the Bliss Restaurant; it was rumored that this was why she moved to a house in Nowata right behind the restaurant. Mrs. Nix also was responsible for doing a vast amount of genealogical research on her family. One thing many can attest to was the fact that she always had the coldest hands, and was known for sneaking up to the unsuspecting person and placing them beneath their shirt for a jolting surprise. Mrs. Nix is survived by cousins, Ruth Scott of Nowata, Linda Lang of Georgia, Paula Fuller of California, Debbie and Rick Riley of Nowata, Gail Page of Coffeyville, Billy Riley of Delaware, Montana Riley of Delaware, Miah Riley of Nowata; one nephew, R.D. Scott of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and by two nieces, Sandra Kay Small of Bashour, Kansas and Lazona King of Bashour; and by one sister-in-law, Jean Scott of Bashour.
