Virginia Lea Burton, born on April 12, 1962, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones in Grove, Oklahoma on March 24, 2025. She was born in Nebraska and later moved to Jay, Oklahoma, where she built a life full of love and cherished memories.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Myrl Wieland and Virginia Wieland, as well as her cherished stepmother, Betty Wieland, whose warmth and wisdom touched the lives of many. She was married to her first love, O Ken Burton, with whom she shared 21 wonderful years until his passing. She found love again with Daniel Swatzell, and together they enjoyed 14 years of marriage, traveling extensively, enjoyed rides on their Harleys, and attending NASCAR races—two of their great passions.
In their later years, Virginia and Daniel delighted in snowbirding to Florida, where they attended NASCAR events, Daytona Bike week and created unforgettable memories, including the thrill of Virginia taking a spin around the track herself and building her own custom convertible Camaro which she loved to drive for joy.
Her professional life was marked by dedication and creativity. She worked for many years at McKee Foods in Gentry and excelled in floristry, even owning her own Green House and Dispensary business. Additionally, Virginia and Daniel ventured into entrepreneurship together, reflecting their shared drive and collaboration. Her love for adventure, travel, and family was a cornerstone of her life, bringing joy to those around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children: Alisha Huffman and her husband Roger of Oklahoma, Weslie Burton of Grove, Oklahoma, and Chris Wieland and his wife Janie of Miami, Oklahoma. Virginia was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren—Bonnie, Clayton, Elizabeth, Austin, Christina, Sydney, Jasmine, Ivy, Christopher, and Emily—and four great-grandchildren, Ares, Adan, Alaric, and Danilynn, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her siblings: Cindy (Rick) Jackson of Nebraska, Debbie Childs of Nebraska, Myrl (Cyndy) Wieland of Nebraska, Kathy Wieland of Kansas, and Tom (Carla) Johnson of Nebraska. Virginia’s extended family also brought her great joy, including numerous cherished nieces and nephews whose lives she enriched with her love and presence.
Virginia’s legacy of love, adventure, and creativity will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her vibrant spirit, compassion, and the many memories she created with those she loved.
