Walter Prather

Walter Lee Prather, 83-year-old resident of Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on June 23, 2022.

Walter was born on November 28, 1938, in Hugoton, Kansas.  He was one of nine children born to Walter Scott and Marie (Hawk) Prather. Walter proudly served in the US Army as a paratrooper. Walter worked as a drilling consultant in the oil and gas industry, always teaching and training. He tried retiring multiple times but was still working on oil rigs at the age of 75.  Walter always kept busy, he enjoyed nature especially watching foxes and hummingbirds. He was a very giving and generous and will truly be missed by all that loved him.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.  He is survived his wife Shirley Jo (McDonald) Prather of the home, his five children: Joe Prather (Suzanne) of Grove, Oklahoma, Paula Cox (Kary) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Rose Anna Messner (Van) of Slapout, Oklahoma, Scott Prather (Tracy) of Kingston, Oklahoma, Renie Nusz (Jon) of Grove, Oklahoma.  Walter was blessed with ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma. Arrangements under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma.
