Wanda Hamilton (Barnwell)

Wanda Fern Hamilton (Barnwell), better known as “Nanny”, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at her home in Claremore, OK.  Wanda was born in Vinita, OK on October 20, 1944, to Jacob and Fern (Tyner) Hamilton.  She graduated from Vinita High School in 1962.  She was united in marriage to Jimmy Barnwell for 26 years and from that union was blessed with 4 children.  She was also married to James Fogleson for 20 years.

Wanda was blessed with many gifts, but her greatest gift was that of service.  Wanda loved to take care of others, always giving of herself and putting herself last.  Through her career she served others at Eastern State Hospital, Betty Ann Nursing Home, and her favorite was cooking for the boys at the Brush Creek Ranch.  Wanda was also blessed with the gift of humor.  She was fun loving, always cutting up, and provided many laughs and adventures for her friends and family through her life journey.

Nanny had many hobbies and past times as well.  She was a great cook and made everything from scratch, always grew a garden, enjoyed sewing and reading, and followed all her children and grandchildren to every sporting event they participated in.  Nanny enjoyed traveling and was always up for an adventure! She also enjoyed going to water aerobics where she made many friends.  She was a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and was very proud of her Cherokee heritage.

Survivors include her children: Eddie Barnwell and wife Leann of Jay, Timmy Barnwell of Tahlequah, Shannon Ellis of Claremore, and Heather Barnwell of Claremore, her best friend and sister Jan Robertson of Topsy, brother Mike Hamilton and wife Denise of Vinita, 11 grandchildren: Case, Kelsey, Colten, Jimmi, Jonni, Tabius, Sage, Santanna, Jacob, Katelyn, and Sierra, 12 great grandchildren: Kenslea, Caleb, Brooks, Kelan, Karson, Olivia, Jackson, Renesmee, Josiah, Micah, Lillian, and Jett and was looking forward to her 14th great grandson Parks, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Caleb Barnwell, great granddaughter Braelyn Bible, nephew Jason Hamilton, sister-in-law Linda Kirby, and brother-in-law Billy Robertson.

Family graveside services will be 10 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at Mose Ridge Cemetery in Topsy, OK.  Services are under the direction of Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com
