Wayne Monzell Smith, eighty-eight year old, lifetime area resident, passed away, Friday, July 05, 2013. Wayne was born on April 24, 1925 in Ottawa County, Oklahoma to Rufus and Ester (Winnie) Smith. After high school in Wyandotte, Oklahoma, Wayne joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II. Wayne married Veldonah Bartley in 1951 in Pineville Missouri. He was a commercial artist and a draftsman most of his life. He was an avid fishermen and enjoyed hunting, especially pheasant. He also was an artist and made Indian dry bread and hominy for friends and family. Wayne was very active in the community and was a proud member of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe, the D.A.V. the Audubon Society, and the Council House Friends Church. Wayne was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Neal and Lucille Langley, and two brothers, Dallas Smith and Delmar Smith. Wayne is survived by his wife Veldonah of the home, a son, Calvin Gaston and wife Arlene, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, three daughters, Linda Smith James of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Peggy Jane Blum and husband Claude, of Winnsboro, Texas, and Donna Marie Spicer and husband Gerald, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and a sister, LaHunta Thompson of Grove, Oklahoma. Wayne is also survived by eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, Two great great grandchildren, and a host of other family. Graveside services for Wayne will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Council House Friends Cemetery. Dallas Wayne Gonzales will officiate.
