William James Marlar, Jr., age 72, was a cherished member of the Monkey Island community who lived a life full of adventure, laughter, and love. Born on October 7, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, his spirited nature always brought joy to those around him. It is with deep sadness that we announce his passing on December 15, 2023.

William led a diverse career that showcased his passion for service and his ability to connect with others. He dedicated many years working as a home inspector for USAA Insurance, ensuring that homes were safe and sound for countless families. Additionally, he shared his warm and friendly personality as he drove "The Bus" for Shangri-La Resort. His kind and genuine demeanor made every journey with him a memorable experience.

His boisterous laughter, exceptional sense of humor, and quick wit enlivened any room he entered. Whether it was telling jokes or recounting hilarious anecdotes from his past experiences, Bill had an uncanny ability to make everyone around him burst into laughter. He truly believed that life should be lived and never took himself too seriously.

Outside of work, Bill embraced a multitude of hobbies and interests, restoring old cars, boat riding, motorcycles, and traveling just to name a few.

William’s infectious spirit of adventure was accompanied by the love and support of his dear partner in life, Shirley Huff, his daughter  Kaitlyn Marlar and her significant other Khelton Gathers, of Oklahoma City, and grandson Miguel Gathers. His siblings Jimmy Marlar, Susan Marlar, and Daniel Marlar will forever hold dear the moments spent together as a supportive and loving family unit.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William James Marlar Sr., Mary Amelia (Johnson) Marlar, and two sisters Barbara and Karen.
