Willie Shawnee

Luginbuel Funeral Home - Vinita - 918-256-5555... John William "Willie" Shawnee, 51 year old Claremore resident, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Willie was born in Claremore on July 18, 1964 to Charles Shawnee and Katherine (Dick) Leaf. Willie was a member of the Shawnee, Delaware, Quapaw, and Cherokee tribes. He was very proud of his heritage and enjoyed participating in stomp dances and war dances. He was a master carpenter and an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with each of them. Survivors include his father Charles Shawnee of Tulsa, wife Dorothy Shawnee of the home, children: Tashina McDonald of TN, Justin Ryan Shawnee of TX, Jessica Shawnee of TX, Shane Thomas of Okemah, OK, Hunter Martinez of Carlsbad, NM, Melissa Morphis of Las Vegas, NV, and Michelle Thomas of Austin, TX, siblings Michael Leaf and Tamra Leaf both of Chelsea, 8 grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Katherine Leaf. Funeral services will be 11 a.m, Friday, February 12, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Chelsea with Pastor Gerald Biswell officiating.
