Wilma Smith

Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove,Oklahoma 918-786-2261. Wilma Smith went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2016 at the age of 97. She was born February 24, 1919 in Maysville, Arkansas to Roy and Lucile Beaman. She attended first through eighth grade in Maysville and then high school in Jay, Oklahoma and graduated there in 1936. Although she was offered a vocal music scholarship to John Brown University, she chose to marry her high school sweetheart, Coy Smith on August 28, 1937. They had two daughters, Carolyn Lucille in 1947 and Shelia Kay in 1956. Wilma and Coy began married life farming in Grove, Oklahoma and later when Coy started a Chevrolet dealership, Wilma managed the office, books, and paperwork with Annie Walker . She also took care of her home and children. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Grove where she taught Girls' Auxiliary, later was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church, and for the last 10 years was faithful in the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Wilma was a strong and resilient woman. She survived a heart attack and was a breast cancer survivor. Wilma was constant in her faith, family, friendships and exhibited real love and affection for anyone who came in contact with her. She loved singing, dancing, hummingbirds, cardinals, flowers, gardening and cooking. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Coy and her daughter Carolyn. She is survived by her daughter Shelia of Sperry, granddaughter Marolyn Maxey Garvin of Broken Arrow, her grandson Matt Maxey of Tulsa in Oklahoma, four great grandchildren, Timothy and Tiffany Maxey and Cameron and Madolyn Garvin. She is also survived by several well-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as a host of other family and numerous friends including the many friends she made at Life Senior Services of Tulsa. Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, June 24, 2016 at Grove's First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Paslay officiating. Wilma will be laid to rest in Olympus Cemetery.
